Taniai washi was handmade by the Yoshioka family in the mountain village of Taniai in Kochi Prefecture. The sheets are made from 100% Japanese kozo that was cooked with soda ash, hand-beaten and dyed with locally foraged natural materials such as clay, barks, and plants. Noriutsugi was used as formation aid, and the sheets were dried on wooden boards. The intimate size and organic appearance of this washi make it truly special. "Yamazakura-zome" means dyed with mountain cherry.
Works well for printmaking techniques such as silkscreen, relief, and collograph, as well as stencil and collage.
