Surikomi brushes are thick and round, typically used in stencil dyeing to apply colour. It is also used in traditional Japanese painting or textile painting to blend colour. Black brushes use deer hair and are stiffer than red brushes which use horse hair, makes it suitable for mokuhanga. No metal parts are used.
