Crafted from 100% Japanese gampi and cooked with wood ash, each sheet is hand-formed and dried on wooden boards. Although this paper is unsized, gampi papers, including this one, behave as if they are sized, showing no bleeding when wet media are used. Aged papers also behave as if they are sized, absorbing ink and watercolour well without bleeding or feathering. This Chikusa Gampi Chiri is over 20 years old and holds a crisp line. Its smooth surface makes this washi especially well-suited to printmaking, particularly intaglio, as well as pen and ink work and drawing. Subtle chiri flecks lend a quiet character to the paper, and the smaller sheet size easily shows off its beautiful deckle edges. Heritage Washi (HW)
