A traditional Japanese baren for printing woodblocks, the Sosaku Baren Beta is handmade and offers professional quality at an affordable price. Its inner core features a thick paper coil, making it ideal for printing flat, solid, and opaque layers of colour in large areas. Also used for the beta-zuri technique in mokuhanga.
Tips: Rotate the rubbing surface slightly as you work so the bamboo sheath wears evenly. Apply a drop of light-weight plant oil to the palm of your hand or a soft cloth and thoroughly rub a thin layer onto the bamboo sheath before use. This helps the baren glide smoothly over the paper and extends the life of the bamboo sheath.
